Many well meaning people tell us that we need
to:
·
Receive Jesus into our
heart
·
Walk down the aisle
·
Get baptized
·
Say the sinner’s prayer
And then we will be saved!
The Bible does not teach this!
Look at the following verses.
*John 3:16-17 Whoever believes in Christ
shall not perish but have everlasting life. They will be saved through Christ.
John 4:14
Jesus told the woman at the well that whoever drinks
(believes in Him) shall never thirst again.
John 11:25-27
Jesus asked Martha if she believed He could raise
her from the dead. Her response was “Yes”.
To believe something means to be convinced that something is true.
The book of John
is the only book in the New Testament that speaks to unbelievers about
what they must do to be saved. All of
the epistles (from Romans on) are written to believers (Those
with everlasting life). Therefore, while
many bible teachers tell people that they must live a certain way or do certain
things or be thrown into the lake of fire, the bible does not teach that.
What the bible does teach, is that
each believer has a choice (Romans 6 – 8) to either live for God or live for
the flesh. Those who
live for God will be rewarded with crowns and receive the opportunity to reign
with Jesus Christ (2 Timothy 11-13).
Those who live for themselves or fall away from Jesus will be denied the
opportunity to reign with Jesus Christ.
They will suffer loss yet will be saved (1
Cor. 3:15).
Believers will be judged by Jesus Christ at the Judgment
Seat of Christ (2 Cor. 5:10). He
will recompense us for our deed whether good or bad. If our deeds are bad we shall suffer loss and
He will deny us rewards and opportunities to reign with Him. However, 1 Cor.
3:15 says we will be saved and 2 Timothy 2:13 says “If we
are faithless, He remains faithful; for he cannot deny Himself.
Revelation 20:15 says if anyone’s name was not found
written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire. Notice that the reason these people are
thrown into the lake of fire is because their names were not written in the
book of life. That is because they did
not have everlasting life.
That judgment is the Great White Throne Judgment. It is reserved for those who do not have
everlasting life. The Judgment
Seat of Christ is only for those who have everlasting life.
What must you do to be saved? Believe
in Jesus Christ alone!
